This year Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is 84 years old. She was born in London on 21st april,1926.The Sovereign's birthday is officially celebrated by the ceremony of Trooping the Colour on a Saturday in June.
This year's ceremony is today Saturday 12 June. The Queen leave Buckingham Palace at 10.45am to travel down The Mall to Horseguard's Parade. Her Majesty will return to Buckingham Palace at 12.30pm. The fly-past will take place at 1pm.
If you wish to see the procession from The Mall, you are advised to leave plenty of time to find a position to watch from.
The tradition of Trooping the Colour
Although The Queen was born on 21 April, it has long been the tradition to celebrate the Sovereign's birthday publicly on a day in the summer, when good weather is more likely.
Trooping the Colour is carried out by fully trained and operational troops from the Household Division (Foot Guards and Household Cavalry) on Horse Guards Parade in Whitehall, watched by members of the Royal Family, invited guests and members of the public.
In 2009 Trooping the Colour took place on 13 June. The Colour was Trooped by 1st Battalion Irish Guards in the presence of The Queen.
