(Piano Concerto
n.2 Opus 18 Rachmaninov)
Suddenly, I
find myself walking along a narrow path full of mysteries and secrets. The
night is dark and I am still far from home, but I keep walking. The melodies of
the first movement of Sergei Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2 accompany me
softly and pave the way for my breathless and tired steps.
The movement
begins with a “moderato”. A light melody invaded by the orchestra.
That's how I feel, invaded by a cascade of thoughts and apprehensions as I
walk.
Then, as my
thoughts fly, I begin to feel a sea breeze, but I still cannot see the sea,
perhaps my final destination. So, the “moderato” is this breeze that
kisses my face.
With the “Adagio
sostenuto” (second movement), a feeling of hope takes over my being. Hope
is always something very good for the soul.
Then the
landscape changes. The trail begins to become more serene and peaceful. Emotion
takes over my being. Images from the past, once happy, bring a smile to my
face. The faces of those I loved and then lost. But sadness is far from me. I
feel a serene and peaceful nostalgia with the strong and relevant memories of
those with whom I lived and with whom I spent wonderful moments.
I continue
walking. The arpeggios are simple and tender. The night becomes clearer with
the moonlight of a full moon full of charm and enchantment.
With the end
of the movement, I have the feeling that the night is irretrievably dying,
giving way not only to the day, but also to the uncertain. It is as if the boat
of my life, which has sailed for so long on the immense sea of uncertainty, is
arriving at the port. A port I have always wanted to reach, but now, when that
arrival is imminent, I hope to find happiness.
With the “Allegro
Scherzando” of the third movement, the night bids farewell with the dawn.
Everything around me is transformed. The dark shadows of the tall trees are
green and slender. A beam of light enters through the leaves, illuminating
everything around me.
And with
renewed energy, I reach the last stretch of the trail that leads straight to
the top of a mountain. And then, I reach the highest point of the mountain and
hear the main melody of the concert in my ears. I see the immense blue sea and
feel part of nature. Everything is peace, everything is perfection. Here there
is no human pressure, no worries, no negative feelings. Everything is harmony,
everything is melody, everything is boundless love.
My soul feels
full of gratitude for so much beauty, so much peace and so much love. My heart feels gratified and at
peace.
